Three teams took part in the First Lego League Australia 2024 Competition at Southbank TAFE relating to the theme of ‘Submerged’. This exciting event combines STEM challenges with real-world problems, inspiring students to enhance their critical thinking, coding, and design skills. Over the past two months, students dedicated time and effort to prepare.
Students who participated in the competition took a moment to reflect on the experience and shared these words on College Assembly:
Duncan:
"The First Lego League competition brought together STEM challenges with real world problem solving, and inspired students to strengthen their critical thinking, coding, and design skills. Over the past two month, our teams have shown incredible dedication, often giving up their lunchtimes and staying after school to prepare. Each team worked on an innovation project, programmed Mindstorm robots to complete challenges and collaborated to discuss their robot designs. We embodied the leagues Core Values, which highlight teamwork, inclusion and perseverance."
Nic:
"The ATC Water Ole's topped the leader board in the Robot Game, walking away with an amazing 230 points, winning the trophy for the Robot Performance Award, and we currently hold the world champion score for this event."
Joe:
"The ATC Abyssal Architects walked away as the overall winners of the day, being awarded the Campion's Award. This celebrates a team that embodied the FLL experience by fully embracing the values while achieving excellence and innovation in Robot Performance, Design and the Innovation Project. We have also been invited to compete in the FLL National Championships in Gladstone on 23 November, which we are very excited about."
