Coming Up Week 3

The respective Academic Assemblies throughout the week were an inspiring celebration of our teaching and learning culture. Congratulations to all the students who were acknowledged on these occasions for their dedication. The binding thread interwoven throughout all the stories of those we affirmed was the critical role that staff and parents have in the success of our students.

Academic Assemblies

This was most evident through the high engagement from our caregivers during our Parent Information Nights as well as our Scholars Assembly where our Old Boys shared beautiful insights about how lifegiving this partnership is for our students’ confidence and capacity. This week we continue to consolidate our identity as a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition and celebrate our Opening Mass and commission our Seniors to leadership as the ‘Pave The Way’ for our community to thrive in their pursuit of excellence in learning, leadership and service.

Parent Information Evenings

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us this week for the Parent Information Evenings. We understand that the start of the year is a busy time for all families with competing demands, and we thank you for your support as we commence the 2023 school year. For those parents and caregivers who were unable to join us on location or online, we have shared a copy of the presentation slides for your reference on the ATC App. If you have any questions that have arisen since the evening, please do not hesitate to contact your Head of House or Learning Department for assistance.

Parent and Student Academic Assembly

Safety on Campus Roads

Families are reminded that due to the construction of the new building in our Senior School precinct, there will be no access to the Senior School roundabout for student drop off until further notice.

Families are also asked to refrain from dropping students off in the carpark of Montessori Children’s House, as this carpark is exclusively for use by the Montessori families. We ask instead that caregivers drive to the ATC lower car parks for drop off/pick up purposes and to ensure that the 10km/hour speed zone is strictly adhered to, in order to help keep our community safe. We will have staff members on site at the entrance to the Montessori car park redirecting traffic as required to ensure that internal and local roads are not blocked. As we return to normal routines and the construction is underway, your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated.

Service

Service is an integral part of ATC College life, so much so, that it is one of the three Pillars alongside Learning and Leadership. Service refers to works and/or acts of kindness with the intention of providing support and assistance to others. ATC has a proud association with Service as students and staff are called to be Signs of Faith; living, breathing examples of what it means to be a good person. We regularly share stories of students doing great things in Service to others on social media and the ATConnect Blog. Now that the school year is up and away, students will begin to consider how they might like to be of Service to others. They will have the opportunity through school organised events to accrue some Service hours, however they are strongly encouraged to scan their local community and find a need that they can help support.  This may be a local organisation or local sporting club, or perhaps he cares deeply about a particular issue?

Whatever it may be, parents and students are encouraged to send their contributions to signumfidei@atc.qld.edu.au  The publication and sharing of these good news stories will promote the wonderful organisations that our students work with, as well as bring to the fore the many causes and issues that our students are advocates for. So please send us through your stories, photos, and comments about all the amazing Service that the ATC students perform in their communities. If you have any queries about the ATC Service Program please contact Andrew McCrohon, Head of Service and Clubs mccrohona@atc.qld.edu.au

LEARNING

ATConnect - Getting Down to Business

From a paperclip to a house - it can be done! Mrs Bitossi has been impressed with the entrepreneurial skills of her Year 8 Business and Economics students who took up a challenge inspired by Canadian Blogger Kyle MacDonald. Kyle successfully engaged in a series of trades to upgrade from a paperclip to his very own house and although our students didn't quite get that far, they still made some cheeky trades to improve their position! Check out their purpose-inspired story by CLICK HERE.
Pathways to Success

It has been an amazing start to the school year for Monty, who started Year 11 last week. On January 26, Monty completed the requirements of his Certificate IV in Fitness, which now provides him with the qualification of being a Personal trainer.

Learning Pathways Fitness Certificate

A tremendous achievement for Monty, who started his school-based traineeship in November of 2021 as a 15-year-old, at Dundee's Boxing & Fitness Indooroopilly. While doing his 575 hours required for the traineeship, Monty also undertook study for his Certificate III in Fitness which is run by Fit Education, completing both his traineeship and Certificate III in October last year. Monty and his family send a big thank you to Chris Weier from Fit Education, Dundee Kim legendary boxing trainer (who was one of the trainers for Jeff Horn for his World Title) and Quan, Monty's boss at Indooroopilly. Congratulations to Monty!

Athletic Development

We have hit the ground running within the Athletic Development space in 2023 and are pleased to see a large number of returning and new students come through the gym working towards a variety of different goals. Within our Athletic Development space we offer sports specific Strength and Conditioning sessions for that Term’s sports aimed at preparing boys for the rigours that sport can bring. We also offer our Gym Club sessions that are aimed at improving the physical strength and wellbeing of our students outside of organised sport. Both of these sessions educate and empower students with the knowledge, diligence and accountability to engage in lifelong physical activity.
