Coming Up Week 4

Signum Fidei Breakfast

Coming together as a community this week, we celebrated our Signum Fidei award recipients at a special breakfast. The gentle river breeze and warm autumn sunshine greeted our families and staff as we proudly recognised and congratulated the amazing efforts of the humble students who demonstrate a commitment to the three College Pillars of Service, Learning and Leadership. We pray they will always walk in the footsteps of Patrick Ambrose Treacy.

Edmund Rice Feast Day

Today we celebrated Edmund Rice Feast Day with Senior and Junior school Masses. College Chaplin Father John Gillen reminded us of Blessed Edmund’s determination, compassion and ‘big heartedness’ in reaching out to the poor and vulnerable in his homily. He challenged students to consider how they would take forward the teaching of the Gospel, so prominent in Edmund’s educational vision.

Now, 222 years on, he still provides inspiration to Edmund Rice schools across the world to create a liberating education for young people. May we follow the example of Brother Denis Sullivan, our special guest today, and all Christian Brothers to bring positive change to the young people in our care and to the wider community.

Cross Country

It was wonderful to follow Mass with a whole school event in the form of our Interhouse Cross Country Carnival. Our beautiful campus provided an undulating course and a great spectacle. The event was well supported by students who ran hard for their house and cheered on their mates. Interhouse results will be announced at the next assembly. Cross Country Team announcements for upcoming AIC and GBC competitions will be released by the Sports Office soon.

Literary Festival

Our 2024 Literary Festival is happening in Week 4 (7-10 May)!! This annual event is a rich celebration of literature and storytelling in all its forms. FAITH AND MISSION

Edmund Rice Feast Day

It was a special day today, the Feast Day of Blessed Edmund Rice. The College community came together at a celebratory Mass to honour the life and work of a remarkable man. Thank you to Fr John Gillen for officiating the Mass today, and to Br Denis Sullivan, our special guest who sets the example and inspires us all to bring positive change to the young people in our care each and every day. The Choir sang moving hymns and the student body robustly joined in singing "We Can Be" a hymn written by Past Student Patrick O'Donoghue, who also joined us at today's celebrations.

Did you know that Edmund was a successful businessman who lived in the southeast of Ireland. Having seen the poverty which existed around him, he wanted to provide an education to young children who didn’t have access to schooling. His desire was that all children have the best quality of life available to them. Edmund inspired many people, including Patrick Ambrose Treacy, to follow in his footsteps of selfless dedication to those in need. This continues to be the basis for all staff who work in Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) ministries today.
