Coming Up Week 5

External Examinations.

Our Year 12 students have completed their first week of their External exams. The exams extend for four weeks, so it is an intense period for the seniors. The building program has taken a break from the heavy-duty work, and the students and staff have been very aware to create a quiet and supportive environment for the Year 12s to do their best.

Celebration of Excellence

This is our formal celebration of the achievements of 2023. All families are invited to join us at Riverlife on Tuesday 14 November, as we reflect on the year we have had. The students who are receiving an award at this year’s Celebration of Excellence have had an email sent to their parents and caregivers from Mrs Tammy Sleeth. Please check your emails and note that rehearsals will be held on Monday 13 November in the Nudgee Junior Hall. During rehearsals, students will be informed of their specific award. Award recipients will be required to wear their full formal uniform at both the rehearsals on Monday 13 November and the Celebration of Excellence on Tuesday 14 November.

Year 10 St Vincent de Formal

One of my highlights of the year, the Year 10 St Vincent de Formal, was held on Thursday. To support our goal of providing opportunities for our students to interact with students from other schools, over 200 ATC and Brigidine students gathered in NJ Hall. A bit of initial awkwardness gave way to a noisy set on interactions as Mr Warr led the students thru a series of engaging activities. The outfits were varied as the students displayed their purchases from the pop-up St Vincent de Paul shop. As part of our service program, the money raised will be donated to St Vincent de Paul society and will be used to support many people who are not as fortunate as ourselves.

World Teachers Day

At ATC, we view all of our staff as teachers. Every staff member has a critical role in modelling our values and supporting the students. LEARNING

Year 12 Textbook returns

A reminder that following the completion of Year 12 exams, we ask that you please check your Parent Lounge account to ensure that your child has no outstanding textbooks from 2023.  Please return all textbooks by Friday 17 November, 2023.  All 2023 textbooks still outstanding will incur a replacement cost. If students are attending school for the Year 12 graduation assembly and farewell on Thursday 16th November, this is a good day to drop all textbooks back. We wish you all the very best at this exciting time in your child’s schooling journey!

Year 4 Raft Regatta

A reminder about a highlight for the boys this term:  The annual “Year 4 Milk Bottle Raft Regatta.”  This will be held on Thursday 23 November.  Working in teams, we will make rafts out of plastic milk bottles and race them in the ATC Pool. To prepare for this we ask that your son begin to collect plastic milk bottles (1, 2 and 3L), wash them and store them in garbage bags at home.  The bottles are to be brought to school in the week beginning  Monday 13  November so building can begin in preparation for races.   The hope is that, on average, each student will bring in approximately 15 milk bottles and  2 rolls of packing tape.

Year 9 Religious Education

As part of the Year 9 Religious Education Curriculum, students will be watching the film “Father Stu” in Weeks 7 and 8 of Term 4 during their regular Religious Education class. This film has been carefully selected as a resource that offers valuable learning opportunities within the Term 4 unit on Vocational Education. Please refer to the College App for more information regarding the film. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Alicia Madigan or your child’s Religious Education teacher.

FAITH & MISSION

Year 12 2024 Claddagh Retreat Presentation

As advised at the recent Parent Information Evening for Year 12 2024, please see the link below for copy of the presentation from the night. If you were unable to attend, you are invited to meet with Matt Warr, Dean of Faith and Mission, on the morning of Thursday 2 November in the Chapel at 7:40am. An abridged presentation specifically about the Claddagh Retreat will be presented and the session will conclude at 8:00am.

The important processes surrounding the Claddagh Retreat can only be delivered in person. If parents are unable to hear this information from Matt Warr directly, your child will not be permitted to attend the Claddagh Retreat next year. Students are not to attend and cannot bring any information home themselves.

If you have an older child who has previously attended a Claddagh Retreat, please confirm this by contacting Helen Hicks in the Faith and Mission Office 3878 0554. We encourage parents to talk to their children about registration for the Claddagh Retreat. This is an optional retreat; however, we ask that all students respond via the link provided to them by email so that planning of venues and staff can be completed. If you have any queries about the 2024 Claddagh Retreat, please contact Matt Warr, Dean of Faith and Mission by email or through the Faith and Mission Office.
