CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE
We invite all students, parents and carers to attend the ATC 2024 Celebration of Excellence on Tuesday 12 November 2024. This evening is a celebration of the ATC Community and its achievements throughout the year, and we would hope that all students and families attend this significant evening to celebrate 2024 at Ambrose Treacy College. Students (and parents/carers of students) who are receiving an award will be notified shortly.
Doors will open at 5.30pm, with guests to be seated by 5.45pm.
Service is one of the Three Pillars that guides ATC. It is a humble and tangible expression of our Catholic faith. I was moved by the number of students who were presented in front of their proud families at assembly in recognition of exceptional service. These students had made a choice to volunteer, help, care or advocate for those who are vulnerable in our society.
No one forced them. They listened, reflected and responded to a calling that shows them as true a sign of faith. I enjoyed the reflections of James Barrett (Year 5) who recycles e-waste and works at the Vera Street Community Garden, and Charles Donnelly (Year 8) who racked up a total of 77 service hours including coaching an U8 AFL team. The Walter Taylor Service Award was presented to Year 12 student Archie Cramer who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to community service, embodying the values of leadership, kindness, compassion, and a commitment to making a positive impact.
On Wednesday evening we welcomed 184 families to our Twilight Tour. Most families were visiting the College for the first time as they considered a place for their son in the coming years. If you know anyone interested in attending ATC, send them to: Enrolments - Ambrose Treacy College.
Even more important than hearing from Mr Ryan, who provided an overview of the College’s traditions, charism, history and offerings was the opportunity for families to hear from our staff and students. Thank you to the students and students who stayed back to conduct walking tours, express their joy about ATC and answer questions.
I would also like to thank the hospitality students and their teachers who created a sense of community by running a sausage sizzle. It was a hit with the young boys who visited. Lastly, thanks must go to Ms Robyn Donaldson and Ms Kate Woodham in our enrolments team for coordinating the event.

LEARNING
Year 7 Japanese Lunch Experience
We are excited to host a Year 7 Sushi Platter Party next Wednesday, 6 November, during second break near Nudgee Junior Hall (river side) as a fun, hands-on way to celebrate and enrich our learning in the Term 4 Food and Drink unit. All students studying Japanese are invited and welcome to join us for this special lunch. A full list of food choices is available on the ATC App. Please remind your child not to participate if they have severe food allergies as cross-contamination cannot be guaranteed. We look forward to celebrating their efforts in Japanese class!
Courage to Care
This term, Year 9 students were privileged to participate in an incursion run by Courage to Care, a not-for-profit organisation that delivers programs to raise awareness of the dangers around prejudice, intimidation and discrimination. In small groups, students and facilitators unpacked the importance of being an upstander in an increasingly complex world plagued by issues such as bullying, domestic violence, toxic masculinity and discrimination. They listened to true stories passed on by Holocaust survivors, and the workshop opportunities allowed them to critically reflect on how they can continue to be upstanders in their ‘social media’ filled worlds.
Students and staff were blessed to hear from a primary source and Holocaust survivor, Peter Baruch who is 86 years old. Peter spoke about his incredible two-year journey as his family fled Poland during the first week of September 1939, and how they safely arrived in New Zealand in 1941. Many students commented on how their thinking had been challenged around the issues of discrimination and they felt more empowered to safely speak out when confronted with social justice issues. In reflection, the group expressed gratitude for their families and acknowledged that they felt fortunate to be living in a safe country.

Year 12 Laptop Purchase
As part of the College 1:1 Laptop Program, each student was given a College laptop at the beginning of Year 10 for the Senior School three‐year cycle. Following the conclusion of each Year 12s final exam, students will need to hand in their laptop and charger to the IT Department. It is important that Year 12 students back up any files on their laptop that they wish to keep to a USB or external hard drive. Laptops must be returned by COB Thursday 14 November 2024. After auditing the current laptops and the needs for 2025, a decision has been made to offer the 2024 Seniors the opportunity to purchase their College laptops. After consultation with our IT partners, ATC has been offered $125 for each of the devices. If a family wishes to purchase the College laptop, they will need to pay $125 via Parent Lounge, under Events and Payments. Purchase of the laptop must be completed by COB Thursday 14 November 2024 and will be returned in the same physical condition as they were handed in. The laptop can also be repaired but will incur an additional charge per the Acceptable Technology Use Policy (Students). Laptops will be available for collection from the IT Office from Monday 9 December 2024 after the laptop has been wiped and come with the default Windows 10 setup as if you purchased it from a retail store. For any enquiries, please email the IT Service Desk.

Year 10 Retreat
Year 10 recently enjoyed a retreat and reflection day with the students from Stuartholme School (official), sharing conversations around the values and virtues which are important to them. They participated in service initiatives facilitated by charities and built courage and respect through participation in traditional dance. Based on the messages from Micah 6 in the Bible, students were encouraged to find ways to live gently, humbly and with kindness. 2025 will bring more opportunities for productive partnerships that enhance holistic experiences for ATC students.

Spring Lunch Wrap Up by Prue Moloney
It was a beautiful sunny day and a sea of pink at the 6th annual ATC P&F Ladies Spring Lunch this year held at The Rose Room, Cloudland in Fortitude Valley on Friday 25 October. A record attendance of 260 ladies came together to celebrate as a community, while raising money for breast cancer awareness and vital research. With almost $10,000 raised, the majority of proceeds go towards National Breast Cancer Research and ‘Share the Dignity’ Foundation - the charity of Rochelle Courtenay, our special Guest Speaker for the day.
Special thanks go to ATC Mum, Kim Craig (Skubris) for hosting the panel discussion and organizing our guest speaker this year. It was such an inspiring session where we learned about how the ‘Share the Dignity’ charity first started and also more information about the ‘It’s in the Bag’ campaign which is all about providing essential sanitary and personal hygiene products in a bag - an initiative helping thousands of homeless woman with many in domestic violence refuge. Thank you to the College Communications, Administration and Accounts Departments for their support of this event over the past six years. We are grateful to Trish, Therese, Tara, Judy and Lisa who helped out on the day, as their support was very much appreciated. This event wouldn’t be as successful without the support of our wonderful our Sponsors:
