Coming Up Week 8

It was wonderful to return to school on Tuesday after the closures enforced by Cyclone Alfred. While there has been only minor damage to the facilities, our team is diligently working on repairs, and overall, we’ve been fortunate. We acknowledge that some families and members of the broader community have not been as lucky, and our thoughts and prayers are with them. If your son is experiencing ongoing hardship due to flooding, power outages, or other factors, please reach out to his pastoral leader.

To help students settle back in, our teachers have focused on maintaining routine in the classroom. As we recover, all college activities, including co-curricular and clubs, will ramp back into full operations. Please review the App for updates about changes to schedules. Music rehearsals have recommenced, and a nearly full round of sports fixtures looks likely, provided the weather stays sunny. Thank you for your support and patience as the College responded to the fluid situation last week.

Camp and Claddagh Retreat

Unfortunately, the weather caused significant disruption to Camp Week. Year 4, Year 5, Year 6, and half of the Year 7 students were able to attend camp at the start of the week. However, the remainder of Year 7, along with Year 8, Year 9, Year 10, and Year 12 students, were unable to enjoy their camp or retreat. This was hugely disappointing. Students always look forward to camp, families spend time getting organised for camp, and staff put in a great amount of preparatory work leading up to camp. Mother Nature, however, had other ideas and tested us.

Despite the setbacks, I extend my thanks to the staff who attended camp. Thank you for sacrificing your daily comforts to provide students with meaningful camp experiences. I’d also like to thank the staff at school who pivoted to lessons and readjusted their routine and home life amid the changes and growing uncertainty about school closures. My thanks also go to the college administration team for their critical contributions to support programs such as Camp Week.

Parents and Friends Rugby Night Out

I’m looking forward to the Rugby Night Out and encourage families to book tickets for what promises to be a great time on Saturday 29 March. Come along and share some quality time with your son, see all the action at Suncorp, including our very own ATC Taiko Drummers who provide thunderous support to the Reds. Tickets are available via Parent Lounge, and full details are on the ATC App.

ATC People and Places | Gwenda Burton Reflects

"Ten years at Ambrose Treacy College—where has the time gone? From watching fresh-faced Year 4 students nervously step onto campus to seeing them stride confidently into their senior years, the transformation has been nothing short of incredible. The evolution of ATC itself has been just as remarkable. The facilities have expanded, new programs have flourished, and the calendar has somehow packed in even more activities—sporting carnivals, leadership programs, retreats, service projects, and enough camps to make Bear Grylls proud. There’s never been a dull moment! But what truly makes ATC special? The amazing staff. Passionate, dedicated, and always willing to go the extra mile. The staff, my colleagues, have created a place where students thrive. Whether teaching in the classroom, coaching on the field, or offering a listening ear, they are the heart of Ambrose Treacy College. A decade here has been a privilege. Here’s to the next chapter of growth and success!"

FAITH AND MISSION

Lent and Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, a period where we reflect on our lives and actions and try and improve the way we treat each other and give to those in need. God's blessings to all in our community. The College marked the day with ceremonies across year levels where the ashes were applied to students' foreheads to symbolise the crucifix and remind us to begin our journey of reflection, prayer and almsgiving.

FORMATION NEWS

Year 8s have been enjoying Friday fun day each week and playing lots of old fashioned games such as skipping, hula hoops, elastics and ball tossing. Thanks Mrs Laboo for bringing back the classics!

MUSIC NEWS

Choir and band rehearsals are in full swing in preparation for the annual Term 1 Autumn Music Concert! This is always a fantastic event, welcoming all new and continuing musicians and their families for a great night of BBQ, bar and music. Performer information will be available via the College App shortly.

Percussion

The Percussion program is a thriving component of Co-curricular Music at Ambrose Treacy College. Percussion Ensemble A offers the opportunity for the most senior percussionists to extend themselves musically playing a wide variety of repertoire. They will continue to build up their program for the ensembles evening in term 2 and QCMF in Term Three.

Junior Band Day

The wild weather dampened our Junior Band Day plans, but our newest and youngest musicians were still very excited to finally take hold of their instruments and meet their teachers this week. Students learnt how to assemble and clean their instruments and learnt their first notes. With a Junior Band of 48 students, we know the future of Music at ATC will continue to thrive and we look forward to some tooting, honking and making fantastic music with this bunch at their debut performance at the Autumn Music Concert on Thursday 3 April at 6.30pm in Nudgee Junior Hall. See you there!

Autumn Music Concert

The next concert is on Thursday 3 April in NJ Hall and we will have a Sausage sizzle & bar from 5.15pm, pre concert entertainment from the Jazz Ensemble, Big Band and the ATC Jazz Orchestra. The Main Concert will feature ATC Symphonic Winds, ATC Senior Singers, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band along with our Junior Choir and Junior Band!

CLUBS NEWS

Our Clubs Program is back in full swing this week after Camp Week and the disruptions caused by ex TC Alfred. Please remember to communicate your absence if you are unable to attend your session. A reminder to subscribe to your relevant club on the app under the Cocurricular, Clubs and Activities tag for any updates that may be posted.

Term Two Clubs registration

Information for Term Two Clubs will be posted on the app under the relevant tags from early next week - Week 8! Registrations will open Monday 24 March at 6:00pm, closing Friday 28 March at 3:00pm.  Please note that capped numbers are in place for some clubs due to staffing and facilities.  We apologise for any disappointment this may cause.

Robotics

We rebooted after the visit from Cyclone Albert and Robotics club started planning and constructing robots for the international RoboRave Tournament. We have teams from Years 8 to 10 competing in the Robot Mouse Labyrinth Challenge, and the Line Follower Challenge. We also have for the first time this year a team keen to attempt the Alpine Challenge. They have been showing their design and digital tech skills using a range of robots such as Micromelons, Arduinos, EV3 and Spike prime robots. We hope we can get ATC and Australia on the board more this year after a successful 3rd place last year.

SPORT NEWS

We hope everyone managed to stay safe and dry after the recent weather events. Fortunately, the fields drained of water quickly and we were able to get training going at the back end of the week. We appreciate everyone's understanding with the cancellations of trainings and some matches. Week 8 is the last week of Term 1 Sport and Matches and in Week 9 and 10 we'll have pre-season trials and training for our Term Two sports. Registrations for Term Two sports are still available via Parent Lounge. Please ensure you're son is signed up prior to the trials so their name is on the registration list.

AFL

Round 5 saw our AFL Firsts vs Villanova. Great to see our supporter crowd out in force, cheering from the sidelines, #StrongerTogether.

Cricket

It was great to welcome cricket legend Jack Clayton to the college this week to speak with player about his career, nutrition, motivation and the world of cricket from a professional perspective. Thank you Jack.
