Coming Up Week 8

Empower Week was a true celebration of neurodiversity, encouraging greater awareness and understanding within our school community. Throughout the week, students engaged in Homeroom and Formation lessons focused on raising awareness of conditions such as ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Anxiety and more. These sessions sparked meaningful discussions, highlighted the strengths of neurodiversity, and gave neurodivergent students a platform to share their experiences.

The Creative Expression Contest was a standout, showcasing our students' incredible creativity. Entries included beautiful artwork, powerful writings, and even a website design. The winning entry, an outstanding display of creativity, captivated the assembly audience and earned its creator Oscar, a well-deserved first prize—noise-cancelling headphones. See his winning submission below.

A Vision-Impaired Basketball house competition also took place, where students used goggles to simulate low vision and audible basketballs. The boys brought incredible energy and enthusiasm, with one student summing up the experience as “appreciative”, conveying a sense of recognition of the challenges faced by those with vision impairments. Thank you to all students, staff, and community members for embracing and celebrating minds of all kinds.

Annual Senior Japanese Dinner Excursion: A Night to Remember

On Thursday night, our senior Japanese students had the pleasure of attending the annual Japanese dinner excursion, this year held at Okami West End. The students enjoyed a relaxing evening filled with socialising and sampling a wide array of popular Japanese dishes, including sushi, sashimi, udon, soba, katsu, seaweed salad, taiyaki and black sesame ice-cream. This delightful experience allowed them to unwind before heading into Term 3 exams. The boys represented Ambrose Treacy College with pride, demonstrating their appreciation for Japanese culture. Special thanks to Tanya Oghanna and Tasha Damon for chaperoning and organising this fun and educational outing, which provided valuable learning outside the classroom.

SERVICE NEWS

Well done to Kane and Cooper who have been volunteering at Bolton Clarke Retirement Living, Pinjarra Hills. There they spent time delivering chocolates to 113 residents, engaged in conversations and offering their support, as well as assisting with lunch service and the clearing of plates after meal time. They also visited the dementia ward where they spent time making bird feeders for their local Wild life. The residents of Bolton Clarke have highly commended the boys on their kindness, support and commitment to their cause. Well done to these two students for being active with their Service to their community.

STEPtember

ATC students across all ages are invited to take part in STEPtember, an initiative that raises awareness and funds to make life-changing impacts for those living with cerebral palsy. STEPtember is a challenge that requires participants to accrue 10,000 steps every day of September. This is a fantastic way of supporting others and getting your daily dose of physical activity. Students who successfully complete STEPtember will be able to log 8 service hours. Please note you will need to complete all registration steps outlined in the attachment by the last day of Term 3 to have your service hours eligible for the 2024 Service Awards. If you have any questions, please contact Andrew McCrohon, Head of Service and Clubs. Full details are on the ATC App. CLICK HERE FOR ONLINE FORM TO REGISTER.

Year 4 Mini-Fayre

Year 4 students will be running their Mini-Fayre to raise money for our service program on the second last day of term. We’ve had the chance to watch the Year 5 and Year 6 students run their Fayres in Terms 1 and 2 and now it is our turn. Boys have worked in small groups to plan their stall / activity in class but may also require some help from home in terms of prizes to give away, help with any materials required, or suggestions to “tweak” the plans as needed! Year 4 students will still have a chance to engage in the activities themselves so are asked to bring in gold and silver coins for this purpose.

We are so proud of how Declan, Michael, Jock and the 2024 Seniors have ‘Been the Change’ for our community. Their powerful mantra of ‘Show Up, Represent, No Excuses,’ has been embraced by the Year 12s - the largest group in the College’s history. We wish them well in their upcoming mock exams, final assessment and in completing their various VET qualifications. May they continue to be a signum Fidei for our community.

FORMATION NEWS

Formal Uniform

A reminder to families that Thursday 29 August is the last day for compulsory wearing of the formal uniform for 2024. This will precede the Ministerial Pupil Free Day on Friday 30 August. Students will no longer be required to wear the College tie and suit coat to school. Of course, there may be several important events at the College where our students may be required to wear the formal uniform, however, you will be notified as required. The College uniform is a unifying influence for the school community and is a valuable part of a young man’s education to learn to present himself in a neat and appropriate manner. As we transition away from our formal uniform, it is important to ensure that our students continue to wear their day uniform with pride and have all necessary items available. Our uniform shop, the School Locker, is fully stocked for any families wishing to purchase any uniform items. CLICK HERE for the ATC Uniform Guide as a reference.

Year 4 Formation

On Friday 4 October as part of our Formation program, Year 4 will explore the topic All About Me - Healthy and Safe. To assist in the delivery of this topic, the College is has acquired the services of Let's Chat Education which will deliver a 70 minute session to each class. It is important that children are given accurate, reliable and appropriate information and skills in a supportive environment, and the home is one of the best places for this education to occur. More information will be shared on the ATC App in the coming weeks.
