Last night’s Formal Music Concert at Riverlife Church was magical. It was a fitting culmination to a wonderful year of musical performance. In 2024 we saw ATC tour Sydney and perform at the Opera House and complete its most successful QLD Catholic School Music Festival to date. The evening included choral, ensemble, band and orchestral performances by students from Year 4 to 12. Families and friends were brimming with pride. I congratulate the students and extend my thanks to the parents who support all those early morning rehearsals and so much more. The program would not be possible without the dedicated ATC team led by Mr Bolt. We value all that you do for the students. We look forward to sharing photos from this special event soon.
During the concert we also launched ‘Jazz by the River’ I strongly encourage the ATC to gather for this idyllic twilight event by the river listening to our jazz bands. Scan the QR code for bookings and information.
During the school year, we recognize charities that align to our mission and contribute to the health and well-being of students and staff. Next week during assembly we bring into focus to R U OK. They’re a national suicide prevention charity and registered public health promotion that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times. A conversation could change a life | R U OK?
Another important focus will be Child Protection Week. The National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) works with government, businesses, community services, schools, families and individuals for the betterment of children and young people. Prevent child abuse and neglect | NAPCAN
Both worthy causes help ATC be a place of liberating education.

National Skills & Training Week
Great opportunities for our learners were presented during National Skills & Training Week including a skills demonstration at St James College. Certificate I Construction students Sean R and Will P did a fantastic job constructing a saw stool in under four hours. Tony Martin from Construction Skills Queensland judged the competition and the ATC Saw Stools placed 1st and 2nd! Well done to both students. Meanwhile at Kitchen Certificate II in Hospitality, Hugo Z's delicious sausage rolls won the People’s Choice competition. Hugo teamed up with Oliver in the Macaron skills test, judged by Hayley Sargent from the Hospitality and Tourism Gateway to Schools and remarkably the ATC Macarons were awarded 'Best Replicated Industry Quality'. Well done to all the participants!
FORMATION
Formal Uniform
A reminder to families that yesterday Thursday 29 August was the last day for compulsory wearing of the formal uniform for 2024. Students will no longer be required to wear the College tie and suit coat to school. Of course, there may be several important events at the College where our students may be required to wear the formal uniform, however, you will be notified as required. The College uniform is a unifying influence for the school community and is a valuable part of a young man’s education to learn to present himself in a neat and appropriate manner. As we transition away from our formal uniform, it is important to ensure that our students continue to wear their day uniform with pride and have all necessary items available. Our uniform shop, the School Locker, is fully stocked for any families wishing to purchase any uniform items. CLICK HERE for the ATC Uniform Guide as a reference.
Year 4 Formation
On Friday 4 October as part of our Formation program, Year 4 will explore the topic All About Me - Healthy and Safe. To assist in the delivery of this topic, the College is has acquired the services of Let's Chat Education which will deliver a 70 minute session to each class. It is important that children are given accurate, reliable and appropriate information and skills in a supportive environment, and the home is one of the best places for this education to occur. More information will be shared on the ATC App in the coming weeks.
FAITH AND MISSION
Year 7 Father and Son Advocacy
The Year 7 cohort gathered on Wednesday for an afternoon and evening of fun with significant male role models in their lives. The students listened to an inspiring talk from Tommy, a former resident of Kenya’s largest slum, who spoke about the power of education and the importance of being a kind and positive person. Many of the students were able to share they believed their fathers were people who epitomise these values. Following some activities, fathers and sons united for a BBQ, cold drinks and an evening of trivia and ‘how well do you know me’ games. Genuine smiles, competition and laughter were shared between and amongst teams. Thank you to everyone who attended. We wish all the Fathers in our community a very happy Father’s Day on Sunday. We are also mindful of all those who cannot be with their Father’s this weekend, and pray that positive and happy thoughts and memories are at the forefront of their minds.

Students who successfully complete STEPtember will be able to log 8 service hours with your homeroom teacher. Please note you will need to complete all registration steps outlined in the attachment by the last day of Term 3 to have your service hours eligible for the 2024 Service Awards. Further details are on the College App.
Year 4 Mini-Fayre
Year 4 students will be running their Mini-Fayre to raise money for our service program on Thursday 12 September. We’ve had the chance to watch the Year 5 and Year 6 students run their Fayres in Terms 1 and 2 and now it is our turn. Boys have worked in small groups to plan their stall / activity in class but may also require some help from home in terms of prizes to give away, help with any materials required, or suggestions to “tweak” the plans as needed! Year 4 students will still have a chance to engage in the activities themselves so are asked to bring in gold and silver coins for this purpose.
