Falling for Music

The traditional Autumn concert heralds an end to the first term, but also is a crucial part of our Music Program as a forum for sharing the term’s hard work from the lessons, rehearsals and practise rooms to the stage. It is a celebration and a bringing together of a community to share in music making, full of unexpected moments of triumph, where individuals overcome great challenges and teams work together in accomplishing common goals.

For so many music students, sharing their music making in front of an audience is the primary motivator for all of the hours of work and dedication that is required to play an instrument to a high standard. For junior ensembles they listen to and learn from more senior ensembles and look up to those role models and are inspired to work harder again to perform to the same high standard.

With wet weather in the week leading up to the event, the pre-concert entertainment took place inside the hall but with no less support from friends and family with the Jazz Ensemble Green and then Blue treating a gathering of early arrivals with their first public performance for the year and for many in these groups their first performing the jazz genre. As the gathering grew, the Big Band and ATC Jazz Orchestra took to the stage and created a fantastic atmosphere as the entree to a main course of Concert Bands and Choral music that would follow in the NJ Hall.

The Junior Choir and then Senior Singers opened the proceedings for the formal part of the evening with very exciting and engaging vocal performances. To follow was the Wind Ensemble who performed two very impressive numbers including the soundtrack to “Mission Impossible”. The Concert Band followed with a performance of a very high standard, and the 2024 Junior Band debuted to a huge applause with classics like “Hot Cross Buns” and “Power Rock”. We concluded with the ATC Symphonic Winds who closed the evening with Tchaikovsky’s famous “1812 Overture”.

We look forward to a packed performance schedule in term 2, and all of the preparation leading up to our Senior Music Tour in the June July Holidays. Please see our Facebook page for a full gallery of images from this concert.
