Recently, ATC was invited to present at a Network Day for Inclusive Education last week, with a wide audience of Inclusive Educators in the Greater Brisbane Area in attendance. The panel included our very own Oliver Fanshawe (Year 11 Student), Sadie (Guide Dog), Melissa Fanshawe (Parent), Sophie Cuddihy (Case Manager), Raissa Martin (School Officer) and Phillipa Enright (our Advisory Visiting Teacher – Vision Impairment).
The discussion was noted as the highlight of the day and described as insightful, engaging, and helpful for all the attendees. A lot of wisdom was shared around best practice for supporting students with a vision impairment in schools and the importance of having a strong team of support was both highlighted and celebrated on the day.
We also had the opportunity to share the successes of our Empower Week from Term 2: Celebrating Neurodiversity, Disability, and Inclusion. The hope was to inspire other school communities to promote inclusion and diversity within their own settings and demonstrate how to celebrate the beauty of neurodiversity. We were all very proud to represent ATC at this event, and we hope that the wisdom imparted will lead to more compassionate and supportive communities that values individuals for who they are.
