Now More Than Ever - National Reconciliation Week

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our touchstone of ‘Inclusive Community’ ensures our school is a place where all people are welcomed, respected, and celebrated.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

This year's theme, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will and must continue.

Reconciliation Action Plan

In 2019, Ambrose Treacy College was one of the first Edmund Rice Education Australia schools to have a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) recognised and published by Reconciliation Australia. The RAP is now annually reviewed and the version for 2024 will be published in Term Three. The RAP is continuingly reviewed by members of our school Community, including staff, students and parents, in the coming months. In addition to ensuring the message of reconciliation is evident in our school, significant celebrations will occur in the first week of Term 3 to highlight the importance of NAIDOC Week for all Australians.

The Clontarf Academy at ATC

Our continued relationship with the Clontarf Foundation and the ATC Clontarf Academy promotes closing the gap between First Nations and Non-First Nations People. Clontarf students and staff are an example of reconciliation to us all.

Reconciliation Prayer

National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council (NATSICC)

Holy Father, God of Love,

You are the Creator of this land and of all good things.

We acknowledge the pain and shame of our history and the suffering of our peoples,

and we ask your forgiveness.

We thank you for the survival of indigenous cultures.

Our hope is in you because you gave your Son Jesus to reconcile the world to you.

We pray for your strength and grace to forgive, accept and love one another,

as you love us and forgive and accept us in the sacrifice of your Son.

Give us the courage to accept the realities of our history so that we may build a better future for our nation.

Teach us to respect all cultures.

Teach us to care for our land and waters.

Help us to share justly the resources of this land.

Help us to bring about spiritual and social change to improve the quality of life for all groups in our communities,

especially the disadvantaged.

Help young people to find true dignity and self-esteem by your Spirit.

May your power and love be the foundations on which we build our families, our communities and our nation,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

(Wontulp Bi-Buya Indigenous Theology Working Group 13 March 1997 Brisbane, Qld).

Now more than ever, we need to tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation. We know that the 6.2 million Australians who voted YES are committed to better outcomes for First Nations people, and are with us.
