Checking in - R U OK?

I trust that all the fathers and caregivers in our community had a lovely day together yesterday. As a father of three young adult women myself, I am most grateful for the gift they are in my life. I hope yesterday was a time of gratitude, appreciation, and enjoyment for all. Father’s Day can also be a time of sadness, and I hope and pray that people whose Dad has passed away, especially those who experienced their first Father’s Day without him physically present, were able to reflect and celebrate great memories together.

Staff News

Congratulations to Ms Karen Bate, one of our Hospitality Teachers who recently shared with me that she will conclude her time with us at the end of this year. Karen has been with us for the past three years but has been a teacher for 45! We shall miss her steady wisdom and experience, kindness, work ethic and calmness! We wish Karen all the very best and thank her for the fabulous work she continues to do with our Hospitality students.

Also, warm congratulations to Ms Sara Condon on her recent attainment of Highly Accomplished Teacher certification. This is a rigorous and robust process that recognises professional expertise, experience and excellence as a teacher in the classroom. Sara becomes our second teacher after Ms Nicole Kirsch to attain this outstanding certification and we are proud of this achievement by Sara.

National Child Protection Week and R U OK Day

We join school communities throughout the nation in focusing on the priority of child safeguarding, protection and well-being this week. Throughout the week, we have a range of activities planned across our Formation classes, College, House and Year level assemblies and activities for both students and staff to form and remind us of the importance of this topic. As always, this will be done creatively and engagingly to promote this important message. I take this opportunity to thank our staff, Formation Team, Counselling Team and Child Safeguarding Team for the work they do in ensuring that our training, preparing, reporting and reflective practice remain current and active in support of our students.

Year 11 and 12 Exams

Our Year 12 students enter the second week of the Mock Exams this week. We wish them every success as they practice for their upcoming external exams in October and November. Thank you to our dedicated team of teachers and school officers who are working with these students in readiness.

Parents and Friends Second Hand Clothes Stall

Thank you to parents Mel Kuflik and Sacha Tucker and their supporters for their amazing effort, organisation and facilitation of this project held last Friday. This Parents and Friends initiative is proving to be most needed and effective and we will review how it can be best timed and resourced in support of this need for both new and continuing families. Thank you to all new and current families who generously contributed and purchased items.

Formal Music Concert at Riverlife

I was bursting with pride in all of our musicians and music staff last Friday at the Formal Music Concert at Riverlife. What a joyous and special occasion it was. I thank our music community most sincerely for your faith in our wonderful music staff. We are blessed by the leadership of Mr Jonathan Bolt and the quality and dedication of our team.

Jazz By the River

We look forward to the much-loved community event of Jazz by the River. We would love this one to be the biggest and best yet. I can guarantee that our musicians and singers are ready having seen them in top form at the Formal Music Concert last Thursday evening.

Long Lunch

Unfortunately, this Sunday’s Long Lunch event isn’t going ahead. We have contacted everyone who had bought tickets as sales were not strong enough to proceed. Whilst disappointing, we have received some great feedback about ways in which we may imagine a different type of event which is more affordable and aims for the same outcomes of enjoyment, friendraising and a little fundraising.

Afternoon Tour - Term 4

If you know a family who are thinking of ATC for their son, please let them know about our Afternoon Tour when they can explore our teaching spaces, music rooms, science labs and digital & design tech areas. They will hear from our students and staff about what we do at ATC. Share the link to register for Wednesday 30 October: https://www.atc.qld.edu.au/enrolments/book-a-tour Thank you to our community who are our biggest advocates.

Community Prayers

I ask the community to please keep Toby Shalders (Year 6) and his family in your thoughts and prayers following the recent passing of his grandfather.

Lord, we pray for those in our community who are suffering. Be with them in this time of hardship and uncertainty. Give comfort and peace to those who have lost loved ones. May their sorrow be turned into strength, and their distress turned into peace. May our hearts remain loving and pure as we seek to always be compassionate to those around us.

God bless.
