Year 5 Camp -An Education in the Great Outdoors

Camping at Currumundi is a time all Year 5s will never forget! Engaging in many different and challenging activities including caving and rock climbing helped build resilience and confidence. Wearing hardhats we crawled through a very tight network of dark artificial caves and this required bravery and determination. We helped each other navigate the course and encouraged those who were feeling unsure. On the climbing wall, we scaled huge heights and then abseiled back to the ground. Being that high brought out fears for some students but with support and cheering, they conquered the task! Some of the activities pushed us to our limits and provided us with opportunities to give everything a go, to try our best, and to be the best versions of ourselves.

Teamwork was a major part of our camp as we played all sorts of games against and with each other. One task was to build functional catapults, and we engaged in traditional activities that helped us connect with First Peoples of our land. Another factor that helped us at camp was that everybody was supportive. We celebrated the effort each student made and congratulated them when they achieved their goals. Our teachers even had a go at a few activities and motivated us to keep going! Watching everybody push themselves beyond their limits was very inspiring and we became closer than ever. Camp challenged us in ways in we had never seen or felt before, but we learnt from our mistakes and had a blast.
In the afternoons we enjoyed free time in the pool. Our evenings were packed with dodgeball and movies, which kept us on our toes constantly. After all this fun, we fell asleep easily.

Camp was very fun and an experience that taught us many useful life skills that we will definitely use later on. Overall, this experience taught us to get along with people we had only recently met, to look out for others and to build friendships that will last a lifetime.
